Beer
We are very lucky to have the amazing, award winning, family run West Berks Brewery almost opposite the pub (www.wbbrew.com). Dave Maggs and his family consistently produce the very best real ales, and keep winning awards – the Dr Hexter' s Healer recently won the bronze medal at the Great British Beer Festival....acclaim of the very highest.
The brewery represents everything that is best about Britain, and especially brewing - their main ingredients are sourced locally, with barley grown near Hungerford and hops from Kingston Bagpuize, near Wantage, from the only hop garden in old Berkshire; their sons, all regulars at the Oak, do all the brewing, and they even use an old Morris Minor pick-up van as a dray ! Their brewery shop is well worth a visit.
The Royal Oak will always strive to offer perfectly maintained ales, and hopes that it does the brewery justice.
Wine
Most of our wine list is made in conjunction with Berry Brothers and Rudd of St James, London, www.bbr.com , suppliers of wine to the Royal Family amongst others since 1698. A lot of care and attention goes in to the list, and whilst we try to keep prices down as much as possible to ensure value, we will never sacrifice on quality. The result, hopefully, is a list with something for everyone, with a selection of grape varieties from both the New and Old Worlds. We also have a fine Bordeaux selection, with limited amounts available of some very special clarets, the '96 Gruaud Larose being among them . If there is a special wine you would like sourced then we would be delighted to assist.
Cider and gin
We are also proud to stock the delicious Tutts Clump cider, www.tuttsclumpcider.co.uk made 3 miles down the road near Bradfield, and made using apples mainly from West Berkshire
We also stock a wonderful gin, Whitley Neill, made just a mile away in Frilsham.
